The Guardian has a lovely obituary piece about the sadly late Emma Chambers. I so loved her as Alice in The Vicar of Dibley. She was the dearest character. The jokes at the end of the shows were just great.
I just saw that she had died, that is so sad. She was so funny and she was only 54, I think! I also loved those jokes at the end of The Vicar of Dibley, they cracked me up. Glad you have them on here to share. Do you remember the episode where she was going to get her cousin, Reg Dwight, and everyone thinks that it will be Elton John? She was just perfect in that role. Sad to hear that she has passed away.
Yes, I do remember. Actually, we have the DVDs. I love that show so much. I think I have Alice's same reaction to jokes. I either don't get them, or I take them too literally and say 'that just isn't funny.'
I am the same. Also, if I think they are funny, they will ALWAYS be very funny to me, no matter how many times I have heard them (or how many times I tell them!) That last video where she laughs and laughs, I have done the same with people looking at me like I am nuts! Here is an English joke for you: How many ears does Captain Kirk have? He has three: the right ear, the left ear and the final front ear! (Frontier) You have to say it with an English accent!
This post made me sad (I hadn't heard the news). Oh that is way too young. So sorry. But it was one of the best BBC shows ever... we watched it on PBS years ago -- how lovely that you have the DVDs ... I would love to watch in memory of this talented lady.
I have never seen the show, but those clips are very funny, especially the one about the blind man. I'll have to look for this on Acorn or PBS. Very sad.
Oh, gosh, it is just the best. From the 1990s when women vicars were just beginning to appear in England. An ensemble cast that was perfection. Now, three of them have died. I own the DVD set.
