Today's pictures/Icicles

Not the world's best photographs but top to bottom are the icicles out the north window. In the last one, you can see that they are touching the ground. It took three pictures to get them in because they were so long!

  1. Crazy! It got up over 50 today and will approach 70 this weekend here in D.C. I miss winter...

  2. There was ice on my car this morning but it was 70 degrees by the afternoon!
Those are some long icicles. Just wondering, what would happen if one of them broke and hit you, they seem dangerous.

    1. They are right next to the house where no one walks. They don't fall until they are more melted. They make quite a loud noise when they crash!

  3. These icicles and your photos are amazing. When I grew up in Wisconsin I adored icicles and I still do, though I live in California now and they don't occur where I live. What a wonderful thing to see at your house.

    1. I think icicles are a sign of a not-so-well insulated house. haha. I have a feeling your house has more insulation!

  5. Crikey!! Are they still there? Could you take a picture from somewhere outside, to show them full length in relation to the house? I think they are wonderful!
It's been way too warm here for ice and snow this past week. We expect a drop in temperature this weekend, and I would not be surprised to see snow again before we can finally say "spring is here".

    1. They are melting but when they come back, I will do so. Thanks for being interested, Meike.

  6. They look like a beautiful curtain, but very, very cold. It feels as though spring is in the air in the UK today, just a little fog this morning, but it should be a nice day.

    1. I actually called them an icicle curtain when I put up a picture of another window earlier in the week on Instagram! I like fog and mist and don't see enough of it.

  7. These are like the icicles of my youth, magnificent. I don't see them anymore it seems. Here we are having record highs or near record highs every day and at least for the next week. Birds are singing. There were moths around the porch light when I let Annie in this morning. Crazy weather. I hope your area thaws out soon.

    1. Did you grow up in the same state you live in now? Moths. Really. Unbelievable.

  8. They are beautiful, nature is so lovely. Now that is very cold for me as I am in Florida and couldn't imagine the winters there. It's been many years since I lived in the north and I'm afraid my old bones are acclimated to the southern temperatures now.
    Great photo, Nan.

    1. Thank you. I am fascinated by people and their climates. I wonder how many people live in areas that are their 'home' weather, and how many live where the weather/landscape doesn't suit their souls. It would make an interesting book, I think.

    1. When they are smaller, we open the window and pull them off for our granddaughter. She loves to eat icicles.

  10. Wow! Those are fantastic. Isn't nature wonderful!

  11. As Barbara said, it is like a curtain of icicles. Lovely, but way colder than I ever want to experience. Alabama and Southern California do not prepare people for that kind of cold.

    1. And I would melt away in the heat! If I ever moved, it would be somewhere even further north, like Scandinavia! haha

  12. Lovely photographs, Nan! And I absolutely loved your header picture, beautiful and frighteningly desolate.

    1. Thank you!! It is so interesting how different perspectives are. To me, it is peaceful and just my yard. I need space like I need air. And I need snow just as much. Isn't the world a wonderful place, with so many climates and views? I'm just now watching The Good Karma Hospital and am falling in love with India all over again!

    2. Nan, India is an incredibly beautiful country with its rich history and culture, but it can also be a very trying country at times.

    3. I have read of the 'trials.' In a couple mystery series, I've learned about roads that stop, and sewer problems, and just how long it takes to get things done.

  13. Oh my goodness, these are magnificent icicles! I imagine them glistening in sunlight and moonlight as well. We have had an unusual winter here with more than 60 days without significant snow and 60+ degrees this weekend,

    1. They are melting at a good clip today! Temp is around 40. Supposed to rain and later snow. I'm hearing from many people that their winters have been unusual. We had a warm January but February has been divinely like real winter - north country style!

  14. Amazing! We had a couple many years ago on the east side of our house. Haven't seen any on any homes in several winters now. Wonder why that is.

Our temps were in the 70s this weekend, which sounds strange for February, but my Facebook history shows the same a couple of years ago. Today we have rain and Thursday we're supposed to have snow. Ice next week. Mother Nature is always a bit fickle this time of year. :)

Thanks for sharing those incredible pictures with us, Nan!

    1. This is the changeable time of winter. Some days winter, some days spring. We are in a spring cycle just now.

  15. WOW! I remember this sort of thing from the old days when I lived in NJ. :) Now, here in NC, an inch of snow is cause for city-wide alarm.
