Saturday Sally/January 7

If you love Inspector Morse, Inspector Lewis, or Endeavour, then I want to direct you to a blog that is all about them. You may find it here. Christopher Sullivan does an amazing job of sharing all one could ever hope to know about these television shows, from reviews of individual episodes including artistic, literary, and musical references, to up to the minute articles about, or communications from, the actors. He also has a youtube channel which you may find here.

Tomorrow night on ITV the fourth series of Endeavour begins. I'll be watching via TunnelBear. It will eventually be on PBS in the US, but I've recently learned from Christopher's blog that we lose about ten minutes of the show over here. After I've seen the shows, I buy the DVDs from PBS, but they say "Full UK-Length Edition."

So that's it for the first Sally of the new year. I wanted to spotlight this one site in case fans of the shows don't know about it. For those on Facebook, he has a page there, too.

  1. I KNEW it! Richard and I have always said that we must miss a few minutes of these shows as sometimes the ends just don't QUITE add up! Thanks for telling me of this blog, Nan. You know I love my British shows!

  3. I am definitely going to check out the blog, thank you, Nan!
"Endeavour" I don't know, but I love Lewis, and have managed to catch the occasional "Morse" when in England. Episodes on German TV are usually not shortened, but they are so often not shown in the correct chronological order, which is a bit annoying. I don't know why they don't simply show episodes as they are, no doubt, numbered by the company who sells them.

  7. Sorry for the simplistic question, but can you tell me a little about Tunnelbear? How do you use it? Via an app on something like a Roku (which we don't have....yet)?

    1. Not at all a 'simplistic' question. I'm going to have Tom answer to tell you the technical stuff.
Tom here--What Tunnel Bear does is to 'hide' where you are by having you use an internet server other than the one that you normally use. Some people use it to surf the internet so that people don't know where they are located. We use it to watch TV in other countries. So if we want to watch something originating in the UK, for example, we tell Tunnel Bear to go to the UK, and the BBC or ITV thinks we are tapping in from there. It expands our choices of what to watch. There are many countries you can go to and watch their TV streaming. We use it through our iMac; if you have a Mac computer (or an iPad or iPhone) and the Apple TV box, you can also 'send' it to your TV and watch it there. If you have a Windows computer it will work on that, but you'll have to watch it on the computer itself. You can also download apps for Android phones and tablets and use Tunnel Bear to watch on those devices. It may be possible to watch through Smart tvs if they have Bluetooth. It should work in theory, but I haven't checked that out yet.
Here is a link for Apple hardware, but at the top of the page there are other options you can explore, depending on the devices you have. Good luck!

  8. My son set this up for me (after I learned about it from you) and I watched it on my roku tv. Just finished watching The Game...At first he connected to it on a little pc he uses that is not his Linux setup in his room, but then asked if I wanted to see it on the tv and set that up.

I am a fan of Endeavour but this was a bit dark at times - or something...filmed a bit like film noir. Hope you know what I mean because I am not expressing myself well!

    1. I'm happy it could work for you!! What a wealth of watching there is. I know exactly what you mean. I think the 1960s setting is part of it. There's something about the feeling of the times.
