Today's picture/Chipmunk

Today's pictures will win no prizes except for adorable-ness. The tomatoes have pretty much gone by though we still get a few to eat each day so we haven't cut them down yet.

We have a little friend who has been sharing them with us. Note the partly smooshed ones on the patio.

  1. I think chipmunks are so cute. I have only seen one in our garden ever. It was a couple of years ago. It only stayed a couple of days. I am sure the grey squirrels chased it off. They dominate our garden. While I think they are cute from a distance I hate all the havoc they make in the garden. Digging in pots is the worst thing after chewing the electric line to the pump in the water feature.

    1. I hate gray squirrels. I've always thought of them as town/city creatures but we've seen a couple out here, including one this summer. I can't explain it because I'm very fond of red squirrels. Grays just seem 'ratty' to me, and rats are my least favorite creature on the earth.

    1. I'm always happy to share! Our little groundhog pal stopped by once to eat a bit of parsley! And I tell the rabbit that she can eat whatever she wants but she hasn't come into the garden ... yet.

  3. I'd share with that little cutie too! Though somebody needs to teach him not to waste his food ;>0

    1. I'm not sure it was him who dropped the other tomatoes. Innocent until proven guilty, right?!

  4. I have a rabbit that ate every lantana I planted this year! The squirrels dig in the pots and make a mess, but I don't know how to stop them. They aren't gray squirrels - brown with a golden belly and very small. Lots of chipmunks as well. Maybe they're the ones digging in the pots!

    1. I've not heard of brown squirrels. I must look them up. Chipmunks are just so dear. I'm sure it isn't them! And I would forgive a rabbit anything!

  5. Also wanted to tell how the milk pods reminded me of collecting during WWII for life vests!

  6. We don't have chipmunks here, but rather gray (and black) squirrels. They are a nuisance! Nothing cute about them. Two years ago, they chewed up my patio furniture cushions and used the batting for their nests. So annoying!! They also dig in my pots and in the garden/lawn. Almost as irritating as the rabbits.

    1. Nope. I agree. I'm fond of red squirrels but we don't have them as much now that we've stopped feeding the birds. I remember a morning, many moons ago when we had an outdoors cat, coming onto the terrace and seeing many red squirrel tails. :<(( And, as I told your mum, rabbits can eat anything I grow.

  7. No (native) chipmunks here in Germany, and I don't think I've ever seen them in the wild. We have red and brown squirrels, they are all the same species but with different coats, just like dogs or cats. Some are so dark brown they look almost black. With the big old trees in the gardens around my house, I often see them. Just the other day, one was in the cherry tree right in front of my kitchen window, while O.K. and I were having breakfast there at the table.
I put crumbled up (stale) bisquits and such out for them on the window sill, and never forget to have some water ready for them.
No grey squirrels in my area, but I hear they are creating problems in other parts of Germany as an invasive species to our native red ones.

    1. I was amazed to hear that there are no chipmunks there, and amazed that you knew there weren't any in Germany. I might know that about my state, but not my region, and definitely not my country. I looked them up and none in all of Europe. I read a fictional book once which had a character trying to reintroduce red squirrels to England because the grays had taken over.
