In a week's time

If you've been to visit in the last week, you will have seen this photo as the blog header.

Today I took a picture of the same view, and it is now the blog header. Seven days and such a change. We're now in the second month of fall, the Scorpio month, when the leaves all depart the trees, the first snows come, and the darkness comes earlier and earlier in the evening. I love all phases of the autumn. Each one has its own particular beauty.

  1. Yes, one needs to get out and enjoy the colors...there is beauty in decay.

    1. I love the oak this color. Like the Vashti Bunyan song I've mentioned a couple times - "There's an oak leaf turning green into brown."

  2. How fast the leaves fall! I love this season and I love the way the light changes. Very nice, Nan.

  3. Those leaves are a nice brown color. Here in Santa Barbara, we don't get much of the leaves turning, and I miss that (some).

    1. Sounds like you are where you should be! I would miss it (a lot!!). I couldn't live anywhere else.

  4. I'm seeing so many changes in the color of the leaves in my neighborhood. So thankful for having my sweet dog to walk every evening, so I can appreciate the changing of the seasons. It would be far too easy to come home from work and stay inside until morning, but she and I head out for 20 minutes every afternoon. She loves fall weather, although today we hit 80 again! This has been the warmest autumn that I can remember! And you got snow! I'd be happy with a little rain.

    1. We won't see 80 again for months and months! I love the cold weather. I can breathe, and I feel alive again. I'm just half a person in the heat of summer.

  5. It is funny how I am just a little surprised at myself every year about how much I actually like autumn! Because, after all, it leads to winter, which is definitely NOT my favourite season with its constant need for lots of clothing, padded coats, scarves and boots, and short hours of daylight. Spending a considerable amount of time in the dark and cold (and often wet) on platforms waiting for trains is what I dislike most about it, I guess.
But I really, really love autumn and the colours in fields, gardens and woods!

    1. It is a lovely season, and I think it is a good teacher for living in the present and not thinking about what is to come!

  6. Even before I enlarged the photo and read your first comment, I knew that was an oak tree, hanging onto its leaves so late. I love oak trees!

    1. When we came here 35 years ago we brought a small oak from our old home and planted it here. It is huge now, and there are many little oaks coming up all over the land. Makes me happy!

  7. Those pictures are really good - hard to believe they are only seven days apart. The Houston area is cooling down a bit, but nothing like what you are experiencing there...lows in mid 60s and highs in upper 80s. The leaves are still enjoying life with Fall still a ways away.

  9. It is too fleeting. But I've always loved November too, love seeing the bare tree branches again. And I especially love it when time changes once again, which isn't far away now!

  10. That changed very quickly! You have the right attitude toward the changing seasons -- and I have to admit that I do not. If (and when) we lived here in Oregon full-time, I dreaded Autumn turning into wet rainy winter. It is already raining now, and I know we need it, so I am trying to welcome it.

    1. I'm not sure I could take a rainy winter. I accept it willingly now because the rain is good, but I need snow in the winter!

  11. Thank you for tracking these phases of autumn. I haven't been outdoors as much as I've liked this season so far, but there have been some extraordinarily beautiful days, where the colors and everything else sang.
