CSA flowers, a birthday, and daylily season

Yesterday was week five of the CSA flowers. More about the CSA here. The woman outdid herself! Not only are the flowers outrageously beautiful, but she included two kinds of basil, and branches of crabapple trees with their little green apples! Addendum: Friday morning when I changed the water, I found rosemary hidden among the flowers!

Next Wednesday is the last week of the first half of the CSA season. I had mentioned that I signed up for both so it will be nonstop bouquets through September 7. Yesterday was Margaret's birthday, and Tom and I gave her a subscription for the second half of the flowers. She was so thrilled! Speaking of her birthday, she turned 34, the age I was when she was born. This year I am double her age!

Me at 34

And my beloved daughter.

It is daylily season at Windy Poplars Farm!

  1. Lovely joyful post ... the flowers from the CSA are really wonderful (I wish there were something like that here) and the subscription is a perfect gift to your beautiful daughter. Loved the family photos, new and "old'. Your day lilies are so beautiful -- it seems like you could be a CSA supplier!!

    1. Oh, thank you! The only thing about supplying daylilies is they last only one day!

    2. I knew that daylilies don't last well as cut flowers (didn't know it was only one day though) ... you hard work and green thumb means you have beautiful flowers growing in your yard as well as the beautiful flowers inside courtesy of CSA -- a great combination!

    3. Actually, my daylilies take very little work, and I'm quite sure anyone can grow them! The only thing is to divide them every few years because they get crowded quickly. Yes, the CSA flowers are wonderful, because I don't have a lot of flowers outside that can be picked for bouquets. Mostly daylilies. ;<)

  2. Your daylilies are always so beautiful and cheery, Nan! And what a gorgeous bouquet from your CSA grower. I can imagine that M is thrilled to receive the second half of your subscription. What a thoughtful gift!

Love all of your photos, as always.

Catching up after our wonderful vacation and visit with our granddaughter. It's been very hot (100+) this week and I'm ready to move to Oregon.

    1. She is getting her own subscription. There was one left! So we will both get flowers every week!

    1. Did you lose photos, or did you not take any (many)? I'm amazed when I see how very FEW photos there are even from my children's childhoods. It is so much easier now to take pictures. Harder to take the time to cull through them though. I have, count 'em!, 40,000 photos in my iPhotos. Whew!

  4. Belated Happy Birthday to Margaret!
What a lovely family picture of the three of them. I imagine they will look at this in the future and remember fondly the happy day it was taken.
Those daylilies do know how to put on a good show, don't they :-)
Your house is beautiful and looks so welcoming, a true home.

    1. Thank you for all your nice words. Yes, we had a lovely time with the family and friends on her birthday. Pizza and a fire, and several games of ring around the rosie. ;<)

    1. They are so wonderful, and easy to grow and take care of. And yes, time does 'run away.' I think of when she is my age. Think I'll still be around at 102??

  7. Such lovely pictures, Nan. Day lilies are one of my favorite flowers; we have many in our garden here on the coast of Northern California. It's always hard for me to accept that each bloom truly lasts only one day. What a nice picture of you at 34! The young family looks so happy; I wish you all much happiness.

    1. Thanks so much! Years ago, I put up a photo of a daylily plant that showed one in full bloom, one just past, and another coming. They are a little miracle flower to me. I love them.
