Today's poem by William Butler Yeats

As I was watching the movie of 84, Charing Cross Road, I heard this, and thought I would share it here in my letters. So lovely.

Aedh Wishes for The Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heaven's embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light;
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

W. B. Yeats (1865-1939)

  1. Thank you for finding that and posting it, Nan. So many people know the last line, but not the rest, and it's so beautiful. Also beautiful is your blog header picture. My garden is full of grannies bonnets this year - I love them, and just pull out the (few) that grow in the wrong places.

  2. I love that movie and the book upon which it is based.
