Today's picture/a painting by Nora Heysen

London Breakfast by Australian painter Nora Heysen, probably painted between 1945 and 1948

A long-time internet friend, Linda, posted this painting on her Facebook page, a share from Prairie Lights Bookstore. I left her a comment saying that it could be me! My breakfast is almost a sacred time for me. I eat the same thing every day (2 slices whole wheat toast, yogurt with fruit, glass of water, and cup of coffee with honey), and always read, though not a book but one of the many magazines I subscribe to. As long as they make paper magazines I shall read them. Currently these treasures come in the mail: The New Yorker, Real Simple, Bookmarks, New Hampshire Magazine, Yankee Magazine, and I await one I just subscribed to, Modern Farmer.

  1. What a lovely painting, Nan! It could be me too as I breakfast in my dressing gown and read, although I don't have toast I usually have porridge and yogurt with a glass of apple juice. I'm a creature of routine!

    1. Isn't it just wonderful. I love it that we eat the same things, only different from one another!

  2. I just love magazines. I only get birding magazines now. I really like this painting. It could be me too. I have cereal, milk and tea each morning. Sometimes I get wild and have oats and toast, or an egg and toast. Brrrr Your header photo looks cold.

    1. Love it that you get birding mags. So great. Do you have the same cereal everyday? Love your version of wild - much like mine!

  3. It's a beautiful painting and emits such good, homely quietness. I can really imagine this being you, Nan!
My first hour each day is very important to me, too. Even when RJ is spending the weekend with me at my place, I need that time to myself. I have a large mug of coffee (black but sweet) and feel ready to eat my favourite brand of muesli (roasted cereals with honey and almonds) only an hour or so later, after I've had my shower.

    1. I buy Familia Muesli, and we've eaten it for decades! Is this the same stuff you eat??

  5. Love this painting!! My weekday mornings are far too hectic to sit and enjoy my breakfast, which is usually eaten during my morning break at work. However, I do sit and enjoy a steaming cup of coffee while catching up on emails and blog posts from 5:30-6:00 a.m. :) Weekends are a bit more relaxed, but I do look forward to the days of retirement when I can sit and enjoy my morning breakfast and coffee in my pajamas. I'm a creature of habit and my first meal is typically greek yogurt with fresh berries and a small handful of granola on top. I've also gotten in the habit of making a Green Smoothie (spinach, water, half an apple, frozen mango and frozen banana) to start my morning. Eggs, toast & jam, half a grapefruit (and occasionally bacon) are reserved for a more relaxed weekend meal with my hubby.

    1. I'm so happy to be done with hectic mornings! I know Greek yogurt is popular now, but I just don't like it. I admire people who mix veggies and fruit but boy, I can't do it. :<)

  6. I so agree. My husband and I eat breakfast ( homemade bread, orange juice and coffee) in front of the computers, I read blogs and he plots our next travel. It's a quiet, peaceful time and so important to us.
