The seven part series begins tonight on PBS at 8pm ET. Tomorrow, it will be streaming on PBS
here. And it will soon be available to buy on DVD. I'm so excited to see this!
On Thursday there was a wonderful interview with Ken Burns on the Diane Rehm show, which you may listen to
here.
Is that Eleanor in that row of pictures? What a beautiful young woman! (I never think of her like that -- beautiful in spirit, but always only an 'older woman' in my mind (younger than I am now, but .... )
ReplyDeleteI will have to get the series later.... we are in Washington State, but visiting family so ...
Yes. If I remember correctly, her mother never thought she was beautiful. So much sadness in her life, yet she overcame it, and did such good. I haven't watched yet either.
DeleteI just watched it on PBS. Very interesting story. I'm glad you said it will be streaming tomorrow because I won't be able to watch it and I don't have cable (no way to record it).

Streaming is such a wonder to me!
DeleteI plan to watch, but not until Rod can join me. He's busy writing and getting ready for another quarter of teaching his night class. BTW, there's a companion book to the series that you might enjoy. Lovely photographs! Go here.
ReplyDeleteI did know about the book. I'm so impressed with all of KB's work. I haven't seen it yet.
DeleteI watched the first episode of this series last night and found it very interesting and informative. What a fascinating look behind the public lives of this family. Looking forward to seeing the coming episodes.

KB's work is so amazing. I've learned a lot from him over the years on all kinds of subjects.
DeleteCaught the first episode last night on PBS, twice, and am looking forward to the rest of the series, Nan. There were quite a few excellent interviews of all the principals in production. Ken Burns, and his team, have done much to enlighten us over many years.
ReplyDeleteI so agree!
DeleteI hope we get it over here (UK). I'm fascinated by the family too. My mother once went out with one of the sons before the 2nd world war ('I once knew a man who danced with a girl who danced with the Prince of Wales") !! I saw Hyde Park on Hudson recently, good in parts I thought.

It is Nov 25 when I'm finally replying and I didn't get to see it. Will catch via Netflix I hope. I am WAY impressed about your mum! You might have been American, and lived near me!
