All you do is:
preheat the oven to 375ยบ F.
prick it all over so it won't burst in the oven, much as you would a potato before baking
put it in a shallow pan
bake for an hour
cool and cut in 1/2 lengthwise with serrated knife
scoop seeds and fribrous strings out
gently scrape a table fork around the edge to shred the pulp into strands
That's it. Then add butter and salt. Yum. They say you may top with tomato sauce, but for me I like it just the way I eat peas and yellow beans.
just out of the oven
the inside with both pulp and 'spaghetti'
pulling the edible strands
almost empty
with butter and salt
I have had it only once and it was exactly like that. I loved it. I think I will try it again when I see it in the market next. I moderate my comments too and have never had a problem. I don't do the word thing because it's a pain in the neck. Most of the time I try to respond before I post the comment because I don't want to forget...but sometimes I'm just to busy to get to it.
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you. The last I knew your old blog was closed. I've just found your new one, and will spend some time catching up! Thanks for leaving me a note.
DeleteI went back to using the word verification because I was getting so many spams each day that I had to delete. I know it is a pain for people who want to comment, but it makes a lot less work on my end.
We actually both like this! We eat it like you do sometimes and sometimes just as if it were spaghetti, with pasta sauce and parmesan cheese on it. (We have had to cut out pasta for the usual boring reasons.)
ReplyDeleteWhat are the boring reasons? I thought everyone ate pasta, unless their wheat is restricted.
DeleteI almost get sucked into the pretty pictures, but I really can't stand squash, of any kind, but espcially yellowish ones. I tried the spaghetti squash once, believing that it would taste like spaghetti. NO! It takes like squash, which is okay if you like squash, but I don't.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
I don't like any winter squash or yams or sweet potatoes, but for some reason I can't explain, I love spaghetti squash.
DeleteI imagine the boring reasons for cutting out pasta is carbohydrates, the big no-no for diabetes. I love spaghetti squash, and use it just like the pasta, with sauce and parmesan cheese. Next time I'll try it simple, with butter and salt.
ReplyDeleteI was just reading that pasta isn't so bad on the glycemic scale, as long as the portion is relatively small - about a cup. Apparently most people eat more than that at a sitting.
DeleteThat looks Sooooooo Yummy!
ReplyDeleteI think the girls might like it!
DeleteI like it just like this too!!
ReplyDeleteI'm already wanting to buy some more. :<)
