How sad to see that George McGovern has passed away. I had heard he had entered hospice care this week. He did good and that is the best legacy to have.
This reminds me, a little, of when I last went to the poll and they had a display to show the correct way of marking one's ballot. There was Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson with a circle by each. "I want Lincoln," I told the lady in charge of votine. She looked at me very scornfully. "He's dead," she said.
I remember when he ran, too. It was the first election I was aware of. I was in 5th grade, living in Pullman, Washington. I don't remember the specifics of the assignment, but I wrote to McGovern and got a signed family photo in response to my letter. I really wanted him to win the election! :)
Hey Nan - Not much to say about McGovern (it was the first presidential campaign I can recall but not much detail) but I do love that bit of Bierstadt on your banner.
My ex-husband ran McGovern's campaign headquarters in the town of Abingdon, VA. We loved McGovern and had such hopes for America then. I should look through my old campaign buttons, too. :-)

Dear Nan, I just saw this post of your campaign button for McGovern. So typical that we did not have him for a President but Tricky Dick instead, typical and sad.
