The power folks will get to us when they can. There are whole areas out in the state, and a single home isn't the first place they will be attending to. In the meantime we have the gggenerator going so we have the fridge, freezer, computer, and tv. We're all set for a while.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I hope so too. The hot water won't last forever. But thank goodness we have a spring so no water pump, and we'll have water even if it is coolish.

ReplyDeleteThey say by tonight. But now the phone line is down, and that's a different fix. So we have to wait till the power company does their work and then call the phone company. We do still have a land line. For twenty some dollars a month I feel it is worth it.
DeleteGood thing you have a generator. Looks like you will have more wood for the woodpile. I can tell winter is about here by looking at your nice neat woodpile ready for action.
ReplyDeleteThat's the little pile on the terrace. We usually refill that once a week or so once the weather is colder. We do love burning wood.
DeleteHi Nan - that's the difference..... we are such a small country that power-outs are rare. We have lived in this house for 10 years and had a couple that lasted an hour. We have a wood burner and a gas camp stove in case of emergencies, but so far not! Hope all returns to normal very soon (and god bless the generator!!)

Our power goes out a fair bit- we have a lot of wind, and also we're at the end of the power grid or line or whatever so we are often the last ones fixed up. This wasn't an area wide one though so they've gotten to it quickly. Repairing as I write!

DeleteHere in town, I suppose only the large shops and supermarkets can switch to generators; to my knowledge, nobody has a generator for their private home. So if there ever should be s power outtage (I can't remember any one that lasted more than 10 seconds), I'd have to get the candles out and wouldn't be able to do much but go to bed and sleep...

DeleteIt's good to have a generator. I don't think ours would run everything in the house, but it would keep some light and the refrigerator and freezer going.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking I want to get rid of my landline, but sometimes it is worth having. But these days I don't often answer it because of the election.
The last straw was when I lost a whole bunch of food I had frozen.
DeleteI like my landline for that very reason. All the junk calls come there instead of my cell. I have caller id and an answering machine so I keep the phone turned off much of the time.
We've only lost power a few times over the years. Usually when we get a heavy, wet snowfall or straight-line winds. Fortunately, the outage has only last a few hours--never overnight! I'm glad the tree was far enough away from the house. Our neighborhood has HUGE trees that are very old and I worry that one of these days one of our neighbors' will come crashing down on our house or garage. Rod wouldn't mind the garage so much. We could use a new one. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's so hit or miss here. Sometimes we'll lose it in the fall, and not in the winter even with winds and ice. It's a mystery to me, just as electricity in general is. :<)
