These are the books that came into the house on Christmas day. Two others arrived earlier; Christmas on the Farm, and Journey into Christmas, both of which I plan to read and write about next year. I expect this week to be quite a bookish one here on the blog with end of the year book notes, book facts, and book lists.
Looks like you have plenty of reading material Nan! I bought 6 books with my gift cards from B & N! YAY books!!
ReplyDeleteDid you post the titles, Sherri? I haven't had a chance to go visiting for a few days.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like stacks of fun to me.
ReplyDeleteI've been staring at my own stack this morning. Trying to decide which one to read first. The hardest decision I face all day!! Happy me.
ReplyDeleteOh, the wit of Lisa!
ReplyDeletePamela, I haven't had a chance to visit so am wondering if you posted about your new ones.
Excellent!!! I'm looking forward to your thoughts on The Art of Fielding when you get around to it. I've been put off by the idea of a baseball book, but many other trusted bloggers assure me I should give it a try. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like good reading! I am copying this idea to take a pic of all the books Mike and I got (tons!).
ReplyDeleteI read the Diane Keaton book and really loved it. I have been hoarding the Roger Ebert book ever since it came out. What am I waiting for???
Lovely books, Nan! I just dreamt about looking for Sherlock Holmes (at Zellers of all places) to buy, so it was a little shock to see you received them for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your reviews, Nan. Isn't it fun to have new books to read? I have a stack too - I'm waiting to get the photo on our computer, so I can blog about them. I've already started two!
For me as well, Nan. Lots of booky stuff coming up soon as my energy quotient is back to what passes for normal around here.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful Christmas and here's wishing you and your family a Great New Year!
Yup! I just KNEW that pillowcase would be filled to perfection. Can't wait to read your posts (and which undoubtedly means adding to my TBR list).
ReplyDeleteI'm green! (It ain't easy...) ;-)
ReplyDeleteWOW...what a bookish Christmas! No new books here, but gift cards to Amazon. (My husband bought Boomarang).
ReplyDeleteEnjoy them all.
And I am reading the Mysterious Affair at Style. I haven't read Agatha Christie in such a long time and this is so much fun to see Poirot introduced for the first time. It takes me so long to get through a book. I admire how you're able to read and write about them so quickly and beautifully.
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I had not one single book among my presents? Very unusual! But just a little before Christmas, my mother-in-law sent two books from England, one I have already read and posted the review, the other one still to be read.
ReplyDeleteBy the way - word verification for this comment is "inkie"!
I had one book, I am of Ireland - poems by Yeats and paintings by Irish artists - I am devouring it slowly.
ReplyDeleteGreat stacks, Nan! I was wondering if you were going to get the new Roger Ebert book. I can't wait to hear what you think about The Art of Fielding. A friend of mine absolutely loved it and I can't wait to read it myself. Rod enjoyed the Steven Jobs bio and I may try it on audio. The Diane Keaton book has been selling very well and I'm curious about it, as well. What fun! I have a bunch of B&N gift cards and am tempted to go on a shopping spree, but I have so many on my shelves already.
ReplyDeleteOh, did I tell you I gave my hubby a Simple Touch Nook? He's in love!!
Happy New Year, Nan, and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThese look good. I see the Jobs biography is written by Isaacson; he wrote a really good biography of Ben Franklin too that I recommend if you haven't read it yet. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on these, especially the Sherlock Holmes tales.
ReplyDeleteI spy Michael Palin and Roger Ebert in that stack. Palin is such a hoot; we have loved his travel series on TV. I discovered Roger Ebert's writing through a friend who knows him. Ebert's writing far outshines anything else he has ever done; what a talent.
ReplyDeleteRaban's Bad Land, set in Montana, is terrific. He is a wonderful writer. I am also finding the Diane K. oddly appealing. Not my usual, but she has received some positive reviews. That book should show up at our library, helping with a resolution to buy fewer books and use the library more.
ReplyDeleteI'm well into the first of my Christmas books - Stephen King's 11/22/63, which is much better than I expected.
ReplyDeleteAlso got Falling Together by Marisa de los Santos, and She Walks in Beauty, a poetry anthology edited by Caroline Kennedy.
Happy reading!
Looking forward to your future book thoughts!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love seeing other people's books? I too received three hardbacks and my daughter sent me a Kindle! So I'll probably go broke adding books to my Amazon Kindle account... :-) It is way too easy to 'buy' a book and have it on your Kindle screen instantly.
ReplyDeleteOooh, goodie! Is there anything more enticing that a stack of new books? Enjoy the reading!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and yours,
Carol
Andi, so funny because a non-baseball fan gave us Tom this book because she knew were fans!
ReplyDeleteLaura, happy to hear you liked the DK.
Susan, that is quite bizarre!
Thanks, Yvette and same to you.
Sallie, it is always exciting to ponder what books to read in the new year.
Debbie, :<)
Diane, maybe you'll write about what he thought when he finishes??
Kay, I am a slow reader. Plus, I must get better about taking time during the day. It isn't as if I have a job I must go to. :<)
Librarian, I have had years like that, too.
Sounds so wonderful, Cait.
Les, it is fun to have new books that look so good!
And to you, Susie.
HKatz, I especially asked for the SH books. My education is about to begin!
Barbara, we love Palin's shows, too. And we have the books. This one he just introduces. It is a collection of travel writing.
ReadRamble, I didn't plan to read it, but since I got it as a gift, and have looked through it, I'm happy to own it. I've read only one Raban - Hunting Mr. Heartbreak.
Becca, I've never read one SK book. Just not my kind of writing. But... this one intrigues me because of the subject. We got the Caroline K. book for Tom's mother on Mothers' Day.
Thanks, Staci, and I, yours.
Jill, yes!!
Carol, thank you, and to you.
That pile should keep you going for a while:) A lot of books came into my house as well this Christmas.I've already finished two of them.
ReplyDeleteWow, I am so impressed, Rowan! Two already! I'll have to visit and see if you've noted the new ones. I just haven't had a chance this week to stop by many blogs.
