Today's cd/The Rip Tide - Beirut

I first heard of this band here, and I haven't stopped listening since. Oh, do I love their sound! This video is from the fantastic NPR series, Tiny Desk Concerts.

  2. That was fun to see, Nan, and they do, indeed, have a good sound. It was interesting to see an accordion in the second song. I'm seeing that instrument show up more often.

  5. What a gorgeous picture of your house. It looks just as I always imagined a New England house should look. Hugs, Carol

  6. Aren't they just great, Sprite?!

Penny, I love the accordion. In fact, it is my favorite sound in an instrument.

Karla, I just love this band!

Lisa, it is interesting, and different. All those horns plus an accordion!

Barbara, you can download them as podcasts. There is some amazing, wonderful music there.

Thanks, Carol. It used to look even more 'New Englandy' years before we bought it with attached sheds and barns.

  7. Cool to hear them using the accordion as a part of the rhythm section on that second song. I've noticed some of the younger indie / folkie bands have been featuring horns more often these days. Do you know The Low Anthem?

  9. Ernestine, there's a bit about the door color here:

And just this summer we did the side doors in the same turquoise and lavender colors. We love them.

  10. I've never heard of this group, but I enjoyed listening to their little concert. Thank you, Nan!

Great new header, by the way. I love the color scheme of your house!

  11. OKAY, that was great. I loved the second song with the inclusion of the accordian to establish the beat...great...and love the fact that he is not using a microphone and a beat box (techno) to fill in dead space. Great use of brass as well. Kind of raw, which I like.
Oh and that view of yours Nan is still fantastic!

  13. Good music and like the setting for it. I will play it for my youngest son who is in a band, he will be interested, he is guitar and vocals his wife trumpet.
My front door is blue too though more of a greeny blue, love your wood, such a lovely change from all the stone around here.

  14. Les, I think they are great!
We are quite fond of the doors. :<)

Anglo in Quebec, you expressed exactly how I feel!

    Thanks, Librarian!

Carole, I bet they will like Beirut!
Yeah, we have a lot of wood. You rarely, rarely see a stone or brick house. Plenty of stones in the fields though. (blog entry coming up about cellar stones!)
