Today's poem by Christina Rossetti

O wind, where have you been,
That you blow so sweet?
Among the violets
Which blossom at your feet.

The honeysuckle waits
For Summer and for heat
But violets in the chilly Spring
Make the turf so sweet.

by Christina Georgina Rossetti
from Sing Song, a Nursery Rhyme Book, 1893

  4. Lisa, funny, I don't think I have any clover. Strange. But oh, the violets are beautiful.

  7. I love this rhyme, Nan, and just came in from picking some violets myself just now. I will copy your poem and keep it safe.

  8. I didn't know this poem, thank you. I do love violets, and the foxgloves that are up in my garden now.

  9. I love Christina Rosetti, and violets in my lawn. I also have a little clump of sweet violets, near the Miss Willmott white lilac.

I love her poems. You coming in from picking violets and then reading CGR's poem, reminds me of a similar thing that happened to me, which I wrote about:

Carole, I never hear of foxgloves without thinking of them as a device for murder in mysteries. :<) Pretty, though!

Pat, they surprise me every spring. They often show up in new places. Wonderful flowers.

  12. Shandy, thanks so much for coming by. I kinda liked the misty quality of the pictures, but it wasn't anything I did. :<) The camera has a mind of its own.

  17. Wonderful photos, Nan. And a wonderful poem as well. I am a fan of Rosetti's poetry. She was just such an unabashed romantic.

I love the photo in your new header by the way.

It's been so gloomy and rainy and chilly here, I wonder when our flowers will begin to bloom? Spring - where did you go?

  18. Yvette, it has been rainy and cloudy but oh, how green everything is! We've had just enough sun to open up all the flowers. It's a little paradise, really.
