Quote du jour/Rose and Onslow

From the television show Keeping Up Appearances:

Rose says to Onslow:
Don't you think we ought to tidy up?

Onslow replies:
Given the transience of life, biology's awesome potential for instability, and the possible meaninglessness of the entire universe, do you think it's worth the bother?

    Hi Nan:

Thanks for this, it is going to come in very handy. When my husband asks when I am going to start my spring cleaning, I will simply quote Onslow.

  2. I love Onslow!! I'll laugh all day at this. And, I keep hearing "Bucket", no, "Bouquet" in my head! Thanks for making me smile!

I have watched all the episodes many times....love it!
Joanne, who has stacks of books out of the library on Spring Cleaning and organization....must put the advice to good use...am working my way down the list

  9. There must be something in the air. We were discussing this very issue at our house!

  10. Margot, it is a wonderful, wonderful series, with tremendous actors and stories. I'm thinking of buying the whole set.

Debbie, and how Onslow isn't the least bit interested!

Joanne, I'd love to see that list. :<)

Commonweeder, I think Onslow has it right. :<)

  12. I love this series too of course. And we have many of the lines memorized, but never get tired of seeing the episodes again and again.

And I really truly love the way you remember the perfect scenes (from this and my all time fav "AS Time...").

Think I might have to buy both these series on DVD for when we travel.

  13. Donna, Onslow is always a delight!

Sallie, I happened to see the clip the other night on a PBS show about Britcom writers. I'm thinking of buying this series, and The Vicar of Dibley. Do you watch the latter?? Oh, is it good!

  14. We love both KUA and Vicar of Dibley here, too, Nan. No matter how many times we watch episodes, they seem new each time.

  15. Marcia, I am thinking of buying both series. I have As Time Goes By, and have watched the whole thing several times, and I'm sure I would do the same with the others. Such great comedy! I particularly like the jokes with Alice, in VoD. I'm quite like her - very literal when it comes to jokes. :<)

  16. I searched for half an hour for that very quote, and you have it exactly! Thank you. I'd like to have it on a tee shirt, Onslow being my cultural hero and all. ;-)

  18. It is a great quote, isn't it?! I moderate my comments so you didn't need to click the 'notify me.' There's another Onslow quote on the blog too:
