Teaser Tuesdays/Counter Culture
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
Grab your current read
Open to a random page
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

When a waitress leaves the restaurant or changes her schedule, her customers feel it the most. Virginia Brandon, who worked days at the Rainbow in Henderson, Nevada, for thirteen years said, "The regulars eat the same thing everyday. I'd see them come in, I'd hang their ticket. By the time they'd sit, I'd put the plate down in front of them."
Nan, you seem to find the best books. My reading has been enriched by following your suggestions. Now I have to have this one.
ReplyDeleteThere's a tea cup, made of amber-colored glass, that's just like a shard of the Sahara glinting on my shelf. The pale blue one - that's like a cup of Nottingham rain reflecting the face of a handsome stranger I was flirting with one afternoon 30 years ago. Midnight blue Limoges is January in Paris, a rare snow fall in the city, cold kisses, and Jean-Claude

This looks like a must read book! I am going from here directly to my library site to see if they have it.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of your daughter's dog is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
What a nice thing to say, Margot!
ReplyDeleteJanice, such appealing images!
Gigi, yes she is!
Island Sparrow, that's the essence of the book in a nutshell! I love it!
Lori, I'll check it out.
Staci, I do, too! I'll tell Lexi. :<)
Laura, it is really great! Lexi will be thrilled with all this praise. :<)
"We think we are the authors," he says, "but we are merely conduits for language. We put pen to paper and who knows what comes out? Sometimes the text takes over. That's why you can't afford to be too anal about structure."
ReplyDelete"I like books where things turn out neatly," says Anna stubbornly. "There's one of the Harry Potter books, the one with the time turner, where everything just works out so cleverly, it gave me real pleasure to read it."
Jeremy chokes on his wine. He can't believe that Anna has just quoted Harry Potter as an example of literary art. Maybe she's not as attractive as he thought.

Janice's enticing extract left me wanting more. I have just ordered When Wanderers Cease to Roam - how could I not want that after reading such a lovely extract! Books, as Dorcas would say in Lark Rise to Candleford, are my one weakness!
ReplyDeleteMargaret P

ReplyDeletegalant - hope you like the book as much as I do - I wrote a bit about it on my Reading Diary blog.
