Teaser Tuesdays/An Irish Country Girl
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
Grab your current read.
Open to a random page.
Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!).
Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Page 66 - An Irish Country Girl by Patrick Taylor (a few more than two sentences today)
And this is what it was. Connor had heard a clicking. He looked around but he couldn't see the spider. He listened, listened. There. The noise was coming from the cupboard over the sink.
... He opened the cupboard sloooowly... and jumped back.
The poitÃn [Pronounced 'potcheen.' Moonshine. Illegally distilled spirits, usually from barley. Could be as strong as 180 proof] bottle tumbled out and smashed in the sink, the fumes of the spirits stinging his nose. And the spider, pausing only to fix Connor with its hard eyes for a moment, hissed and scuttled out of the cupboard, leapt onto Connor's shoulder, and bit his ear.
ooh that has me interested. Being of Irish descent I am always interested in all things Irish anyway.
ReplyDeleteIt is great, Hip Chick. Different from the other three Irish Country books I've written about since it takes one character and goes back into her past. Really fascinating. He is a wonderful story-teller.
ReplyDeleteI love this series and did not know there was a new book out. I'm off to order it from the library. Great teaser! Here is my teaser for this week.
ReplyDeleteInteresting teaser :)Looks like nothing I've ever read before...
ReplyDeleteMy teaser this week is creepy but funny! Here's a link.
Beth, it is Kinky's story! And what a tale it is. I've been in the land of the faeries. You don't ever wanna cross 'em!
ReplyDeleteSusan, these Irish Country books are wonderful, wonderful!
Interesting, nasty spider! My TT: http://www.rundpinne.com/2010/01/teaser-tuesdays-knit-purl-die.html
ReplyDeleteI don't have a post up on my blog yet, but wanted to mention Italian Shoes by Henning Mankell. This is the first of his that I've read that is not part of the Wallander series. I've only just started it.
ReplyDeletepg 31 "The Forest Pool - when I went swimming as a child, the summer when I celebrated my tenth birthday, and my father and I paid a visit to the area in the north of Sweden where he was born, I'd promised her a visit to that forest pool when I returned from my year in America"
I do so love reading about Sweden - the cold and the snow attract me, probably because we don't have any here.
Nan, did you mention recently that a new TV series of Wallander is coming soon? Do you have any further information? I'm eagerly waiting, and I scan the TV schedules regularly searching for it - do hope I haven't missed it.
That's a wild and some what scary teaser!! I do not like spiders so having one come at me and then biting my ear would find the spider squished!!
ReplyDeleteThat is creepy! And a great teaser, I'm interested! Love your header too. Have a great week!!
ReplyDeleteOur library happened to have An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor. I got to read it.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, you oughtta read the description of it. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteJanice, I just borrowed this from the library! But brought it back because I was reading other stuff. It looks great. The show is on in England now I believe, and I think that means we'll get it in the US on public television in the spring like last year. (she wrote hopefully)
Staci, there's no way Connor could squish that spider. He is being plagued by the faeries in the form of a raven, a fox, and this spider for something he ought not to have done. :<)
Wrighty, thanks!
Lisa, this fourth in the series is a departure; dealing with Kinky's early days.
After your reviews of this series I ordered them from the library. It seems they are very popular as I'm on big waiting lists. It will be a long time before I get this new one. Your teaser has me wanting the list to hurry.
ReplyDeleteMargot, I'm so pleased you want to read them, and I'm thrilled they are popular. What great stories they all are. I just love them.
