Yesterday afternoon when I was making the
rhubarb squares (excellent for breakfast, by the way), I turned on the radio, and was surprised and delighted to hear a December 2007 interview with Henning Mankell, the author of the
Wallander series. It was on a
CBC program called
The Choice. If you are interested, you may listen
here. It was fantastic.
It's exactly the same recipe I've used since 1973 when I found it in a Better Homes and Gardens magazine. They are delicious even if I can't imagine eating them for breakfast - we have them quite often for dessert in the summer.

I like a lot of fruit desserts for any meal at all! :<) Do you read Mankell, Em??
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't read any Mankell - that is I started once but never got beyond the second chapter. I'm not very interested in mysteries, that's why - I know he's a very good author, but it doesn't help when you don't like what he writes about.

Can't wait to try your recipe, Nan! I'll have to see if anyone around here has a bumper crop of rhubarb to share!
ReplyDeleteEm, I'm afraid of that, too. :<) The interview is wonderful though.
ReplyDeleteAlison, I wish I could send you some!
thanks for this link. I'll listent to the interview. I'm very interested in this series because Wallenderw was completely off my radar. Unfortunately, we were out last Sunday evening, but shall catch up on it this week!!
ReplyDeleteOooh, always delighted to find another CBC radio fan! The Choice is great -- I've heard some absolutely wonderful stuff on that show.
ReplyDeletePamela, I had only read his name over the years, and now am so very interested. That's the great thing about well done television - it can lead one to new authors.
ReplyDeleteKiirstin, just recently I heard a show on The Choice with the late Nuala O'Faolain. It was an amazing interview. I love the CBC - I get the Quebec station.
what a fantastic interview ... thanks for this one, Nan
ReplyDeletenow I may just have to break my resolve to not buy books ... no hope of getting these at the library ... the hold lists are a mile long
Janice, I'm so, so glad you could hear it. I'm having a hard time myself since I'm so eager to read the first one in the series. :<)
ReplyDeleteThank YOU Nan for all this info on Wallander. So much going on with our son's wedding that I missed it Sunday night! Glad to have the reminder!
