Now that the First Family has decided to get a Portuguese Water dog, it just increases my sadness about Senator Kennedy's health. You may remember I did a book report on his book called
My Senator and Me. When I heard about the Obama family's choice of dog, I thought what a nice thing it would be to have a sequel about the relationship between the Kennedy dogs and the Obama dog. I read that he is writing his memoirs, so maybe he will be able to write it. I hope so.
Is this a relatively new breed of dog? I remember one of my students about 6 years ago saying his family was going from Chicago to Mississippi to a special breeder to bring back a Portuguese Water dog. They said the dog was good for kids with allergies.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know he was writing his memoirs, that is very good news. I have so many Kennedy books, they have a special section of their own.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased that the Obamas have chosen their dog, I'm sure that breed will be in great demand now.
think I have cracked this anon. business at last!
Oh, Kay, I read the breed is 800 years old!!
ReplyDeleteCarole, I just happened onto that information today. And you are anon-no-more!
Oh, I know. I thought so much about him when I heard they were getting one of these. I think he'd been doing a bit of canine lobbying for his favourite breed, so I was happy with their choice.
ReplyDeleteSuch a remarkable man. Did you read the NY Times cover story on him last Sunday?
I hope there will be someone to train the dog. I will be a wonderful companion for the girls.
ReplyDeleteI see that Ted Kennedy is to receive an honorary British knighthood. Nothing to do with his dog, I'm sure, but I feel glad about it.
ReplyDeleteIt is on the news this morning that Senator Kennedy has been awarded an honorary knighthood by the Queen.
ReplyDeleteLisa, I agree. I think all families should have dogs if at all possible.
ReplyDeletePamela, Carole, and call me madam, thank you for the news. I'll go read further.
Portuguese Water Dogs are the most enchanting puppies - those children are going to love it!
ReplyDeleteHave you read "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein? Also written from a dog's point of view...
ReplyDelete- J.
Geranium Cat, they sure seem adorable from the pictures and videos I've seen.
ReplyDeleteJeff, I haven't but will look into it. Thanks.
He was knighted by the Queen...
ReplyDeleteHe will not be Sir Kennedy, but he was knighted....
Beverly, thank you for coming by. I wonder what he will be called.
ReplyDeleteThe Portuguese Water Dog makes wonderful pets, and their curly hairs are so handsome. A good choice for the Obama family, now some questions remain: male or female, how will they call it?
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing. I went to your page and found it most interesting. It really informs a potential buyer about the breed.
