Today's cd/Taylor Swift - Fearless

Taylor Swift
Fearless
2008

When Taylor Swift sings about being fifteen, I'm there. All the feelings return in a powerful wave:

Cause when you’re fifteen and somebody tells you they love you
You’re gonna believe them
When you’re fifteen and your first kiss
Makes your head spin around but
In your life you’ll do things greater than dating the boy on the football team
I didn't know it at fifteen
When all you wanted was to be wanted
Wish you could go back and tell yourself what you know now

I love Fearless. This woman, who is three years younger than my youngest child is full of talent and heart. She writes about good stuff that (especially) women of all ages can appreciate. As a mother, I particularly loved this from The Best Day:

I'm thirteen now
And don't know how my friends
Could be so mean

I come home crying
And you hold me tight
And grab the keys

And you drive and drive
Until we find a town
Far enough away

And we talk and window shop
Till I forget all their names

And I'll bet most all of us have experienced this at least once in our lives;

She wears high heels
I wear sneakers
She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming 'bout the day
When you wake up and find
That what you're looking for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see
You belong with me

Tom heard her music on the radio and gave me the cd for Christmas, thinking I would like her. He was so right. She has a great voice, the music is catchy, and the words are wonderful.

  1. Hey, our hometown girl! We love her here in Maryland (that's where she's from). When hubby and I took kiddo to see Rascal Flatts this past summer, Taylor opened for them. Kiddo loves her and was singing along to "Our Song". :)

  3. Nan - look at you with your Bold New Blog Look and listening to songs about being 15 (and identifying therewith)! I am going to look for this in the teen music section at the library. My 11 year old daughter has been making musical recommendations lately that I pretend to deplore them but have added to my "exercise" itunes playlist (e.g.,Fergie and the Pussycat Dolls). Stay warm.

  4. She's a remarkable talent - so much beauty in her words - her sentiments. Ah, to be 18 and have her whole life ahead of her! The angels are surely in "cahoots" with her!

  6. I have to check out that CD. Megan really loves Taylor and I haven't really listened to her. Thanks for the reminder!

  7. KSVW, I think Tom heard her on NPR! I laughed out loud at your comment. That's me alright, bold! But I do listen to new music. I'm not an oldiesstation person. When my girl was 12 is when I heard of Green Day! And I went into the local music and bookstore, and they hadn't heard of them!

Utah G. I love what you wrote!

Staci, I am quite, quite sure you'll like the music.

Sherri, and how old is Megan? Music is for all ages always, isn't it! One of my favorite, favorite things is talking music with my almost 24-year-old son. Stay tuned for the cd coming up next!

I love all your comments! Thank you so much.

  8. I like her too, her songs make me feel young and happy. Until your post, I was a secret admirer or her music but your post made it OK for to be a grown up fan. :-)

  10. I am so impressed with your eclectic taste in music. Taylor Swift is new to me, and very good indeed. I now intend to impress my youngest son, who plays in a band, with my new knowledge. Thank you, I'm sure I will score points!

  11. Carole, Let me know what he thinks. My son doesn't like her at all :<) And I don't think my daughter knows who she is.

  12. Guess what I did today? I was at Target getting a magazine for my Mom; thought of your endorsement of this CD, and just went and bought it! Never heard it before, never heard of Miss Taylor; but I know we share a very similar taste in music so I went for it...

Listened to it on the way home and it is great!!! Love the lyrics. Will have to find out more about this young lady.

    Thanks Nan!
