Lezlie, it really is a great philosophical discussion point, isn't it? I mean, people spend so much time and emotion on their weight and fitness levels and health concerns that you wonder if they just relaxed, and had fun if the vibe would go around the world. In the old days, people read what they wanted and ate what they wanted, and now both those things are referred to as 'comfort' as if it isn't quite right. That we should suffer by not eating bread or french fries and by reading books that depress us. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Hurley and Sawyer get all the best lines, except for the one fo Locke's that my husband and I quote all the time. After not hitting the keys at 108 minutes, Locke says "I was wrong"
Raidergirl, it is one of the passions of my life! As you may know, we don't have tv anymore, and are happy enough waiting for shows to come out on dvd when we rent them from Netflix, but NOT LOST! We are buying them from iTunes. Oh, Hurley and Sawyer are my favorite, favorites! That was a great line of Locke's. I have a quote of his on the blog:
I made comfort food last night ... after being down and out for about six weeks with polymyalgia. Who knew? never heard of it.
Anyhow, feeling better, and cooking again. I made colcannon (an old Celtic recipe) made with mashed potatoes and cabbage. There are about a gazillion versions of colcannon. My favorite is called Rumpledetbumps because it's made with broccoli and I love the name. Learned this version from Molly Katzen in one of her most excellent cookbooks
Janice, I'm so sorry to hear that. Glad you're feeling better. I've heard of colcannon and should look it up - only thing is I don't like cooked cabbage or broccoli! The mashed potatoes part sounds perfect though.
Oh Nan, another LOST fanatic here! I LOVED that line. That and the one where Hugo’s mom says “Why is there a dead Pakistani on my couch?!” LOL
If you want a bit more “Lost-ness” you should come check out the blog for the Lost books challenge. We’ve been posting episode recaps, photos, and of course book reviews … all pertaining to LOST. What fun!
Heather, I added it to my LOST links on the sidebar! You guys are having so much fun over there! I loved the conversation between Hugo and his mom at the table. She didn't understand but she believed him - just as a great mother would.
Susan, thank you for stopping. I just went over to your blog, and will spend more time there. My mother-in-law is in Florida, and went swimming yesterday. Unimaginable to me. As I sit here, my computer says it is 18ยบ. As a fellow LOST fan, you might enjoy the links on the sidebar, if you don't already know about them, esp. the new one Heather just mentioned in her comment. Honestly, I could spend hours every day thinking about LOST. I've often thought it would make a terrific college course, one that went on concurrently with the show each year.
Lisa, you are so funny. You know it is true. Thin people are often fidgety which is probably a circle because their fidgeting keeps them thinner. I neither fidget nor am I thin, but when I was younger and thinner I was a much more nervous, jittery person. I think I'd rather be me now than then. The header photo (we are quite sure) is the same deer who was in the last header pic. There are four now who visit every day.
The title photo is stunning ... and a wonderful quote! There is nothing like comfort food especially in 10 degree temperatures. Still enjoying the harp music ... thank you.
LOL!!! I've never watched Lost and I feel like I'm missing out something pretty cool. I should check out the first season from the library!! I really agree with what you wrote back in your response to Lezlie...makes a lot of sense!
This comment is about your banner picture. It never ceases to amaze me how much ice and snow is part of the fabric of life in other parts of the country from mine. I live in western Oregon and when it snows here it is a "big deal" and we all gnash our teeth until it is gone. We are all probably gone soft by our mild climate.
By the way, I love your blog and follow it every day.
Layanee, do you think that if you got deer feed, they might eat that and leave your garden alone?? It is pricey, but...
Staci, do it, and today!! Your life will never be the same! It is a major topic of conversation in our family, and for Tom at work with a couple people. It makes my brain expand. :<)
Scriptor Senex, thank you. It is such a beautiful creature.
Oh, yeah, Kay - "fabric of life" alright!! I think it defines my area, and indeed me, more than anything else. We do have other seasons, but this is the one that is in my soul and in the soul of the area. Our ski/snowboard season is a huge deal, as is snowmobiling. On the other hand, most of us (not all, but most) cannot stand the heat. Thank you for your nice words.
Pamela, I took the pic through the window of the kitchen door with the zoom lens. And we practically do just "sit at the window" when they are around!
Sherri, I just love Hurley and his words! Are you a LOST fan??
Me, too, Colleen. Wasn't that so touching when the dead ana lucia said, 'libby says hi' aw, poor hurley. But I was always glad she died before he found out she was lying. That would have hurt him more, I think.
I'll answer your comments as soon as I possibly can. Please do come back if you've asked a question. Also, you may comment on any post, no matter how old, and I will see it.
LOL! *That's* funny! Could McDonald's be the answer?? :-)

ReplyDeleteI love your new header photo.
ReplyDeleteThis must be why I haven't shot anyone yet. I eat plenty of comfort food.
Several years ago I did read that people with a layer of fat on them usually are less nervous than people that are thin. Ha... I am way laid back.
Love those lines and the show.

I don't watch Lost so didn't quite get the joke. My daughter watches it though. I like your philosophical comments.
ReplyDeleteI love your header pic by the way, I wish we had snow.
Cait, your girl can tell you! It was a joke but sorta wasn't at the same time. Thanks - I just love the blue and white and then that dear deer.
ReplyDeleteThe title photo is stunning ... and a wonderful quote! There is nothing like comfort food especially in 10 degree temperatures. Still enjoying the harp music ... thank you.
ReplyDeleteThat is a memorable line! I think your deer shot exquisite although they beauties are ravaging my garden as I type.

Wow, did you see that deer in the new header in your very own garden??? I would sit at the window all day.
ReplyDeleteLOL-What a great quote!! Thanks for the chuckle!
ReplyDeleteBecca, so good to hear from you!

I remember that scene well and laughed out loud!
ReplyDeleteKay, me too!
ReplyDeleteAw man, I love Hurley. Who doesn't?
