Mrs Bale doesn't whinge (whine) when the temps get low.
5:30 am
She simply dons her wool jumper (sweater), pulls on her Wellies (rubber boots), puts a rug (blanket) over her knees and she's off on her adventures, undaunted by the cold.
Whew, our -2 this morning seems balmy compared to your thermometer today. Brrrrrrr That Mrs Bales is adventuresome. I got out with Luna yesterday. Brrrrrrr again.
Oh my goodness! I'm not nearly as tough as Mrs. Bale! I would be whining up a storm if it got that cold. It was below zero yesterday, but not that low. Yikes.
Les, ah, it's nothin' - we New Englanders are kinda proud of our weather, as you may see in a Gladys Taber quote I posted last winter: http://lettersfromahillfarm.blogspot.com/2008/02/quote-du-jourgladys-taber_08.html
Very funny, Kay! I know this sounds like one of those good-old-days stories, but we used to walk to school in temps like this, and people go snowboarding and skiing without even thinking about it. Though many of us would melt right into the earth with Texas temps. :<)
Colleen, I haven't been out in a week. :<) Pamela, I just love that. You ought to do a blog entry on it, with some of the times noted. I love the character of Mrs Bale - she's so strong, yet there's a vulnerability too. And she's so funny. Staci, thank you. I'm so pleased with the picture. Tom took it out the laundry room window. Four deer are coming regularly now - maybe three times a day they stop by to munch on the deer food we got at the feed store.
Debbie, you may read more about Mrs Bale on the first posting I did with 'her' weather report: http://lettersfromahillfarm.blogspot.com/2007/01/mrs-bale-reports.html
I'll answer your comments as soon as I possibly can. Please do come back if you've asked a question. Also, you may comment on any post, no matter how old, and I will see it.

ReplyDeleteThe dial on thermometers in this country don't go that low.
ReplyDeleteLisa, I'm lucky because I can send the dogs out into an enclosed area without doing anything except opening the door!
ReplyDeleteS.Senex, very droll!
I opened the door for my cat today and she backed up! Bah!!! Sending warm wishes your way.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maggie - cold even down there, eh?

I can't even comprehend temps that low. Guess I'll remain a Southern girl.

ReplyDeleteHa! This is hilarious! Please stay warm. Hopefully you're thawing if it means only that you're curled up in front of the fireplace more than usual. :)
ReplyDeleteWe are huge fans of Mrs. Bale in our house! We always check the shipping forecast, and I announce dinner time in minutes and seconds.
