Housework/Front Door update

A couple months ago, I showed you the "before" shots of the front door, and here is the "after!" Tom did all the painting himself, and we both are thrilled with the result. Every time our kids drop by, they tell us how much they like it. So, a great success!

  2. Looks beautiful! We need to work on our front door, too. It's gotten a new handle, which left a sorry-looking mess where the old-fashioned handle used to cover more of the wood, and we never changed the color when we painted the house exterior.

  3. What a pretty door. I love colorful doors--Dublin was full of them but I didn't see any as pretty as yours.

  8. Not only would I like to borrow the painter but I quite fancy some of that sunshine as well. It's grey and wet over this side of the pond and has been for weeks...

  9. Oh, it makes our doors looks soo tacky. I wish you were my neighbor but considering how neglected our house would look next to yours the distance between us might be good. I loe the new header.

  10. Thank you, thank you for all your enthusiastic comments!!
Beth, our friends have a poster of Irish doors, and they are so colorful. We've a poster of Irish cottages, and those doors are gorgeous, too. Even the most rural place has a colorful, cheerful door.
I love the way so many of you feel the colors are inviting.
Sorry about the grey, grey, grey S.Senex.
em, our house is by no means in good shape. Paint is peeling, mold is on the porch, part of the porch floor has rotted. We are more a country farmhouse than a country estate, believe me! And the inside is in need of much work. :<)

  11. Nan, The door turned out wonderful; very children's storybook - in the very best way. It looks like a place to linger in friendship and comfort. Wish I could pop in and visit!

    hugs,

  12. I love the color. Giving me some ideas in case I build my country cottage. I have always had a natural wood door. Would like to go with a color.

  13. Aisling, that is exactly the look we were going for - Tomie dePaola!
We think it's cheery, too, Jenclair!
One Woman's Journey, I love color! Years ago everything we had was natural wood, but now I like paint.

  19. what a wonderfully inviting door!

blue around doors and windows is believed to be very protective in some cultures!

    and attractive to boot!

  20. Kimy, I've read in some feng shui books that red is supposed to be good, and then I read that green is better for the way our house faces, but in the end we went with Tomie's colors! Glad they are protective colors. :<)

  21. This is a very inviting color combination. Seeing how good it looks makes me realize that I need to do the same to my front door, when it gets warmer of course.
