Round here we have lots of little peep-holes in the hedgerows where badgers, foxes, rabbits have their short cuts, with a corresponding hole in the opposite hedge.
We have trails like this too. Cows used to be pastured on our property and their trail-walking habit actually formed some little one-cow-wide "terraces" on the back hill. There is a level trail pounded out by hooves (hoofs? lol!) over time, carved out of the steep slope of the hill. And of course, generally speaking, when I walk on that part of our property, I follow the cow path. ;)
