This book is really a letter to my friends, especially those I have never seen or met... Every day of living on my forty acres in New England seems to bring forth something I wish to share, so I write it down.
I could use exactly these words about the "letters" I write in this blog. I'm taking the occasion of the 1000th letter, to offer a present to one of my dear readers. I am going to buy someone a book by Gladys Taber. It probably won't be new because it is almost impossible to find new editions. It doesn't matter where you live. If your name is drawn, and you live overseas, I'll happily send it to you.

I've never read anything by Gladys Taber — I hadn’t even heard about her until you mentioned her on your blog — but knowing how outrageous the overseas postage are I understand if you won't put my name in the cap.

Have you read In Search of England by H.V. Morton? It's a nostalgic look at England before the huge changes that took place in the last 80 or so years.

Congratulations! 1 000 is pretty much the number of titles I've added to my "must read"-list since I became a regular visitor of your blog. I can't remember how I found my way to your lovely letters. I'm glad I did, I keep coming back daily. Thank you for the beautiful photos, too.

Your blog grounds me--even though I found it it cyberspace. I stumbled upon it when I hit on the name of a favorite author, and your "tastes" (from Sunday supper recipes to Mrs. Bale-as-weather-woman) have never failed me. My husband and I courted each other via letters, so they go to the heart of things, yes? Here's to the next 1000!
