After the snow melts

I took a five minute walk down on the main road, and here's what I saw.

PS: The next day I went down again and picked it all up! (and found some more)

  2. Sadly, the rubbish in those photos is all too familiar. The state of the roadways, now that the snow had receded, is disgusting and demoralising!

  3. I serve as the morning crossing guard at the school just one long block up the street. Every day on the way home I pick up a handfull of litter! I don't understand why people just chuck things out the window in a residential neighborhood. And naturally, after 29 years of parenting, I feel compelled to pick up after them!

  4. Oh, this is so heartbreaking. As a child, I was always taught not to litter. I taught my daughter not to litter. How difficult is it to keep your trash in your car until you can get to a trash can?! I really get angry when I actually see someone toss trash out their car window. I want to pull up next to them at a stop light and hand it back, saying, "Excuse me, I think you dropped this." ;)

  5. I know how aggravating this can be Nan. I live on a busy street, right off of a curve. People throw out trash all the time. I pick up the trash regularly. Very disheartening.

  6. So very frustrating! I cannot believe how often I am behind a car and I see a window open and stuffed pitched out - this enormous disconnect people have with their own earth...

  7. From my very small experiment, it is mostly liquor, and that can be broken down to mostly beer, and soda containers that get thrown. I'm sure most of the throwers are two sheets to the wind, and finish one off and hurt it. There's an exit off the highway nearby that's a bit secluded, and years ago, every few days we'd always see a pack of empty cans or bottles, always Miller. Tom and our son would say, the Miller man has been here.

  8. people these days have no respect: no respect for themselves, for others, for others property, for the environment. This was a great photo essay

  9. It makes me think that there could be an alcohol problem in the U.S.

Too bad you couldn't find any beach glass...

  10. Hi Nan. I just hate when I see trash along the streets or in people's yards. I was reading something about India, that along the train tracks there are just piles of trash b/c people just throw it out the window. The people that work on the train also throw used items out of the train. It is just so disrespectful of your country, community and other people. And I haven't even mentioned the train toilets!

  11. Glad to see someone else feels compelled to pick up trash and recyclables other than myself. I think the beer/liquor containers are more prevalent because people don't want to get pulled over with the containers in their vehicals. Makes sense to me, what makes even MORE sense is people not drinking while driving in the first place...lol.
