Remember all that
garlic I harvested in August? There were 34 bulbs, and just last night I used the last of it. I hung it on the north side of the kitchen, and it kept quite well. We planted the same amount, a pound, this past October, and I'm considering buying another 1/2 pound for next fall's planting.
I'm wanting to try planting some garlic in my garden this year. I don't like it too hot though. Can you recommend the one you planted and where you purchased it?

It isn't too hot at all, in fact is rather mild, I think. It is easy to peel because the cloves are large. Sometimes the little ones just take forever. We are thrilled with this variety.
Wow. Sounds like you eat a lot of garlic, but I can't blame you! mmm now I'm hungry.

We never seem to have much luck growing garlic and I wondered if our soil might be wrong for it. It's annoying because we love garlic and spend a fortune buying it. Garlic chives are quite nice too, lovely snipped up over a salad or in egg mayonaise.
ReplyDeleteCath, around here you plant in the fall, let it sit all winter, and then it grows all summer. I don't know how that applies in your climate. What kind of soil do you have? I've never heard anything special about soil for growing garlic.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so good. I must be hungry. You must plant more...
