In these golden latter August days, Nature has come to a serene equilibrium. Having flowered and fruited, she is enjoying herself. I can see how things are going: it is a down-hill business after this, but for the time being, it is like swinging in a hammock, - such a delicious air, such a graceful repose!
Charles Dudley Warner, Summer In A Garden
I absolutely love your porch! I'd live out there in that hammock. As you know, we have a porch with 4 rocking chairs, but it's too narrow for anything else. Lovely quote, too, by the way.
ReplyDeleteI would love to come and enjoy the delicious 'end of summer' air. Before we know it, it will have the smell of the dieing foliage in the air, but I like that smell too.
ReplyDeleteI will sit in the big rocker, as a hammock makes me need to put my foot on the ground, or the rocking makes me queasy!
Is that your veranda? Always wanted one of those!
You would both be most welcome! I love that man's writing. Peg, I sit or lay in the hammock sideways. That way I can hit my foot on the railing to keep it going and I also don't get queasy facing out. Isn't that funny that it would make a difference? But it does. And yes that is our porch. I like the word veranda better, and also piazza.
