Hanging laundry on a line is one of life's luxuries. It represents time. Time to be alone. Time to think, even to meditate, accompanied by the repeated actions of hanging clothes - stooping, straightening, lifting, hanging, breathing, watching the clouds. There is a spirituality in the simple, positive actions of this everyday activity.
Irene Rawlings and Andrea Vansteenhouse, The Clothesline
I used to hang out clothes for my mother when I was about 8 or so and then until I was about 10 when we moved from a house with a clothesline. My brother was a baby then and I remember hanging out diapers a lot. I could barely reach the line to attach the clothespin. Sweet memories. Haven't lived in a house with a clothesline since then.
ReplyDeleteDear friend, thanks for stopping in. Could you set up a line where you are now? The clothes would probably dry in an hour. :<)
ReplyDeleteFor weeks now I've been after my husband to hang a clothesline for me. I can't wait to air out some things after a long winter. You have a lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteGosh, Mary Catherine, thank you so very much. Did your husband hang the clothesline for you? I'd love to know what kind it was.
