Jack Frost

Someone painted pictures on my
Windowpane last night --
Willow trees with trailing boughs
And flowers, frosty white,

And lovely crystal butterflies;
But when the morning sun
Touched them with its golden beams,
They vanished one by one.

  1. Lovely Nan, we seriously need some of this weather here.Still so mild that we have flies around.

  2. I love the cadence of this poem. Reminds me a bit of a child's nursery rhyme.

    Not too cold here today (34), but we're supposed to get more snow this afternoon. If so, that'll be three storms in one month. That's a lot for us!

  3. I had not been to visit your blog in a couple of days. How ironic that I just used this same poem on my CelebrateTheSeaons blog this morning. We had a slight frost compared to yours though. I LOVE the frost on your window. I was thrilled that we got even a slight frost with this warm weather we have been having.

  4. Heidi, I am so amazed. :<)
    Dovegreyreader, thank you.

    Les, I think it probably was a children's poem.

    People in my parents' generation knew a lot of poems like this by heart. They could recite them at the drop of a hat. Poems are a lot easier to memorize if they have that rhythm. I guess at some point they weren't "cool" anymore, so they aren't known now.

    Our weather is just about perfect. We now have snow, but most every day has been bright and sunny. And the days are so much longer now.
