My ...I memorized all of the poem in the 4th grade. My teacher was a spinster who loved reading and literature. I still remember some of the lines. I am now a grandmother and in my 70's, and I am so grateful to my teacher for having us memorize many poems. They still are remembered, though we have grown old. I don't think children memorize poems anymore. <br />I am a former teacher. When I taught 4th grade, I had my students memorize poems. When I taught Kindergarten, the poems were called finger plays. The children loved learning them and doing hand movements with them.
