Long-Awaited Reads Month - January 2014

You may have noticed the picture for Long-Awaited Reads Month on the sidebar for a little while now. This is what it is all about:

... the rules are very simple and the event is meant to be completely relaxed. Here’s what you have to do:
Read books you’ve been excited to read for a long time but never seem to get to in January. You can do this exclusively for the whole month (my approach), you can do it for just one week, or you can simply try to get to one or two of these books in January. Your level of commitment is entirely up to you!
At the beginning of January, Iris and I will post something signalling the official start of Long-Awaited Reads month. If you’re taking part, you can come back to these posts and leave us a link to a LAR-related review; you’ll then be entered in a giveaway for a book you’ve always wanted to read that is up to $15/€11/£10 on BookDepository (open worldwide).
If you want to talk about the event on Twitter, the hashtag is #LARMonth.
 Have fun!
Simple, right?

You may find out more here, and here.
I love the idea of this. I have so many books on my shelves that I pass every day and think 'I can't wait to read you.' Yet I do wait, and wait, and wait. I've just walked around and chosen these six books which I really want to read. Most likely I will read just one, but hey, that's fine with me!

  1. I'm planning to take part in this, too! I know I'll want to have a no-stress reading month come January. Yay!

  2. I might have to give this some thought! Sounds fun. I could read the Lewis Grassic Gibbons A Scots Quair Trilogy I've been meaning to read for several years or the Elizabeth Goudge books!

    1. I saw the Gibbons on PBS many years ago, and there still parts that I remember. Not easy for me to watch. I owned the book for a long time and then gave it up knowing I would never read it. Now Eliz Goudge is a whole different story! Wonderful books.

  3. Oooh - Nigel Slater - a lovely cook, but this little memoir of his early life is very moving. I loved it.

    1. There's a televised version on Netflix Instant, but I don't want to watch it till I've read the book.

  4. I've had Ana's post saved in my inoReader (google reader replacement) for quite a while. Great minds and all that....I think I start January like that most years anyway.
Now, which books will be picked? That process can be just as much fun as reading the books. I'm not familiar with any of your books at all. Hmm, may the Mitford one sounds vaguely familiar.

    1. Isn't that the most wonderful thing - that there are SO many books. I'm always learning about new authors and their books.

  5. That small pile of your "long awaited" books looks very intriguing - I think I would want to read them all, too. For me, the long awaited ones are mostly re-reads; you know, the kind of book I keep thinking about, telling myself "I really want to read this again", but in the meantime, there are always so many other books coming my way which I want to read first, and "save" the re-reads for when I have nothing else... somehow that never happens!

    1. I'm with you on the rereads situation. I know exactly what you mean!

  6. What a good idea... I may try it. I'm supposed to be be on a 'book diet' which means I'm trying to read what I have and not buy more... But I'm as successful with that as I am with food diets...

  7. What a great idea! I have a whole list of books that I want to read. The older I get, the longer the list.
You know the book about Lady Bird that I won in your giveaway? I treasure it, thank you! (When you said you walked past your books, it reminded me of this book from you.)
Hope you have a great weekend!

  9. Long awaited reads month ties in very nicely with James's TBR Dare… think I'll be enjoying both. Hope you enjoy which ever one you choose.
