Mrs Bale is happy to announce...

... the first snow of the season at Windy Poplars Farm! She hasn't had much to say about the long days of summer and the rather mild autumn but last night her heart began to flutter!

And this morning she feels alive walking in the cold air, and seeing the beauty of sunshine on snow.

  1. So nice to hear from Mrs. Bales again, and to see your first dusting of snow. We haven't had a frost yet in these parts. There were threats last night, but, this morning, no sign of ol' Jack Frost. He'll come soon enough, I suppose. At any rate, thanks for Mrs. Bales announcement, Nan.

  2. I like the pumpkin photo. I think we got a bit more snow than you did. I'm dragging out the winter boots and snowpants--this (and the weekend forecast) has caught me by surprise.

  3. Yes, Penny, I was glad to hear from her too.:<)

Sarah, I heard that you did. I wish we had more!

  4. Already? Well, I guess that's not so unusual. My sister-in-law said they are supposed to get snow in PA. Let's see, it's forecast to get to down to 39 here tonight. What about that??

  5. Hi Nan:

Lovely to hear from Mrs.B again.

Luckily we haven't had the pleasure of a visit from the white stuff yet, but judging from the heavy frost this morning, and the shower of falling leaves, it isn't too far away. I hope it holds off at least until Halloween is over. Hope all is well with you.

  6. No snow here. Yet. Thank goodness. Although it does look awfully pretty in your photos, Nan. :)

We're supposed to get snow showers over the weekend.

    We'll see.

  7. Kay, maybe you will have an interesting winter of snow there. :<)

So good to hear from you, Donna!

Yvette, other than my kids having to drive in it, winter is my favorite season.

  8. Snow! Sounds like somebody needs to be baking something and warming things up, eh? :-)

  9. Thanks so much, Nan, for posting the snow pictures. We don't get any here, and I miss it a lot.

Also, for your beautiful headers. Each time a new one pops up I gasp in astonishment and pleasure.

  10. What a very, very nice thing to say, Janice. Thank you!

  11. hey Nan,
When will the 2012 reading challenges be coming out? We'd like to partake:)

  12. Snow in NE PA last night. Not much but it weighed down the trees that still have leaves, and the evergreens. Tomorrow they say we'll have quite a bit more. I don't mind looking at it from inside, but I hate to drive in it now.

  13. I took an almost identical wee pumpkin photo and posted it on my blog this morning, hours before seeing yours!

I'm rather excited about the predicted Nor'Easter and even more snowfall. Today I drove round admiring the odd but gorgeous combination of white coating and vivid foliage. (Yes, we've still got peaking leaves!)

  14. I love to see snow in photos. I like to see it on the ground as well as long as I do not have to drive to work in it. Two inches of snow in Nashville causes panic and paralysis. And they have to gas up our two snow plows.

  15. Oh Nan, too early for the white stuff! It is pretty though!

  16. Hi Danny and Amber! They'll be showing up on people's blogs. There are a million, so what are you interested in?

Barbara, we have studded snow tires. :<)

    Thanks, Ernestine.

Margaret, I think you may get more than us.

Betsy, two for the whole city? :<) Wow.

Never too early for me, Sherri!

  17. How pretty.I remember one year as a child growing up in Minnesota that we had so much snow on the ground for Halloween that we went trick or treating in snow suits.

  18. Nan - we might have 3 or 4 plows. They plow only the interstates and numbered main roads. Residential areas are never plowed. No matter how much snow there is. We just have to wait for it to melt.

  19. Um, how does Mrs Bales' motorbike work in this weather? Love the pictures, 'tho I probably don't have to say I'm not a cold-weather fan.

  20. No snow here Nan. We are rapidly approaching another long hot summer.
I watch in amazement as you post your beautiful photos of the increasing snow falls and can't imagine what it would be like to live in such a cold climate for so long.

  21. Snow already!!! As far as I'm concerned, the sunny and relatively mild days we've been having for the past weeks can go on for quite a few more weeks!
Love your header - that bookshelf looks extremely inviting, and everything is set up so nicely, with the patchwork rug on the wall and the lamp at the side.

  22. No snow here yet but perhaps we'll get it tomorrow. I think your area is in for that storm even more than we are.

My snapdragons and lavetera are still going strong - and my hydrangeas. I better get some pictures before they're gone.

Looking at your pictures I could almost smell that fresh, invigorating first snow fragrance. You make me look forward to it!

  23. Yes, that is more than frost on the pumpkin. Love seeing the first snow.

  24. It's so pretty when it first comes, Nan. If only it didn't last so long...

    Love your new header!

  25. Wow, Betsy. I would think that is a citizen's right to have her road plowed. What if someone has to get to the hospital, or a house is on fire and the fire dept. has to get there?

Sallie, she'd do fine! All melted now. Sadly.

Patricia, not cold enough for me! I like it crisp and windy, and this fall has been so mild we've had only a couple frosts. I think one of the things I like best about blogging is connecting with others and hearing about their different weathers and climates. I wish you'd start a blog!

Thank you, Librarian. There's more about that quilt here, if you are interested:

Kathie, isn't that smell just wonderful? Like no other. So refreshing. It's pretty cloudy here. I wonder what we'll get.

Lisa, it's all gone now, but more on the way.

Debbie, I love the Camelot line about the snow coming in Dec. and leaving March the second on the dot. :<)

  26. Well, hello, Mrs. Bale! Long time, no see! I hope you enjoy the snow. It was in the 60s here today and I've been enjoying the warm weather all week, with a few long bike rides. Hoping to go for another tomorrow. I'll be perfectly content to see no snow until December 24th, thankyouverymuch! ;)

  27. @Thomas, they cancelled Halloween here (Lincoln, Nebraska) in 1991 due to a huge snowstorm.

  28. Nan, your bookcase is spectacular! I'd take a picture of the seven of ours, but they aren't nearly as nice looking as yours.

I hope your winter isn't too severe and not too long!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Even nicer snow now, Les. A couple inches and nice and cold so it won't melt for a while. There's nothing so beautiful as sunshine on the new snow.

I don't think we've ever had to cancel Hallowe'en but I remember some cold, dark, rainy/snowy ones.

Tia in Oregon, Tom just repainted it last Thanksgiving vacation. I'm so, so pleased with it. And go ahead and post your book shelves photos, please!

  30. May I have such a gracious attitude when the first snow comes here in Michigan!

  31. It's easy for me, Staci. Winter is my favorite season.
