Divine Dream Bars

This is a recipe from December 1999. I noted on it that Margaret and I made them when she got home from school, and that they were a nice variation on Magic Cookie Bars (which I wrote about in my second month of blogging in 2006). Today I bring them to her boyfriend Matt for the June installment of his birthday present. I loved what Margot said in a comment on the May installment, 'I've really been enjoying your "boyfriend" series of recipes.' Me, too! It's been a fun activity each month.

Divine Dream Bars

1/2 cup softened butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup flour

Mix together and pat into greased 9 x 13 pan.
Bake at 350 F. about 10 minutes.

Blend together the following:

1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs, well beaten
2 Tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup coconut
1 12oz. package of chocolate chips

Take first mixture out of the oven, and spread second mixture over it.
Bake another 15-20 minutes. Cut while warm. Delicious!!

  1. Oh good, another yummy bar cookie. I have to tell you that I've made your chocolate chip bar cookies so many times and I just passed them on to another blogging friend on Saturday. With only six ingredients, it's just easy to make.

Patricia, he is really cute about his monthly surprises. And aren't the strawberries just amazing. I need to buy some more. I froze 3 quarts, and we ate 1.

Les, not a coconut girl, are you?
